Somatic Sessions: Connecting Mind & Body

Our experiences are not only reflected in our thoughts and emotions, but also in how we experience and respond to the world through our bodies. Stress, anxiety, grief, and trauma can influence how we breathe, move, and feel in our daily lives. Somatic practices offer an opportunity to slow down, develop greater awareness of these connections, and explore new ways of responding to life's challenges.

Drawing on my experience as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and certified 500-hour yoga teacher, I offer individualized somatic sessions that integrate talk therapy, mindfulness, breathwork, and gentle movement. These sessions provide an opportunity to explore the relationship between your emotional experiences and physical sensations in a supportive, trauma-informed environment.

What Is a Somatic Session?

Somatic sessions combine traditional therapeutic conversation with body-based practices to support greater self-awareness, emotional regulation, and connection with yourself. Rather than focusing exclusively on thoughts and emotions, we also pay attention to how experiences show up in the body.

Sessions are collaborative and tailored to your individual needs, comfort level, and goals. Depending on what feels appropriate, we may incorporate:

  • Mindful Movement: Gentle, accessible yoga-based movements that encourage awareness of physical sensations, tension, and patterns of movement.

  • Breathwork: Simple breathing practices that support relaxation, grounding, and awareness of the connection between breath and emotional states.

  • Body Awareness: Exploring physical sensations and how they may relate to emotions, stress, and everyday experiences.

  • Meditation & Mindfulness: Practices that encourage present-moment awareness, self-compassion, and a greater sense of connection with yourself.

  • Therapeutic Reflection: Integrating insights from movement and mindfulness practices through conversation and reflection.

No prior yoga or meditation experience is necessary. All practices are optional and can be adapted to your individual abilities and preferences.

Who Might Benefit From Somatic Sessions?

Somatic sessions may be particularly helpful for individuals who:

  • Experience anxiety, chronic stress, or difficulty relaxing.

  • Are navigating grief, loss, or significant life transitions.

  • Want to explore the relationship between physical sensations and emotional experiences.

  • Feel disconnected from their bodies or find it difficult to identify and express emotions.

  • Are interested in incorporating mindfulness, yoga, or movement into their therapeutic work.

  • Want to complement traditional talk therapy with a more experiential approach.

Somatic sessions are not about achieving a particular yoga pose or physical outcome. Instead, the focus is on curiosity, awareness, and developing a more compassionate relationship with yourself.

My Approach

My work is grounded in the belief that meaningful change involves both understanding our experiences and developing new ways of relating to ourselves. I draw from trauma-informed clinical practice, somatic awareness, mindfulness, and my extensive training in yoga and meditation.

I recognize that body-based practices can feel unfamiliar or vulnerable, particularly for individuals with histories of trauma. Sessions emphasize choice, collaboration, and respect for your boundaries. We move at a pace that feels appropriate for you, with opportunities to pause, reflect, or modify practices at any time.

Session Format & Fees
